Suffolk County Council have an opportunity available for a Family Support Practitioner to join our team based in Ipswich, Lowestoft or Bury St Edmunds, however, there will be need to travel throughout Suffolk and further afield. This is a casual role which involves working as and when required, with no guaranteed hours. In return, you will receive a competitive rate of £11.70 per hour, plus holiday entitlement.

Do you have a suitable practitioner level qualification at Level 3 or equivalent experience in the relevant area of work experience of supporting children and young people?

As our Family Support Practitioner, you will:

Provide supervised contact for children and their families and undertake direct work with a range of children and young people

Supervise contact in the community, family homes, contact centres or other appropriate buildings such as children s centres. Due to the nature of the role there will be minimal opportunity to work from home

Be required to work hours throughout the day, with an emphasis on working during school holidays; from the end of the school day 2.30pm onwards including into the evenings; and at the weekend

Be required to transport children, so you must hold a full valid driving licence and have access to personal transport with business insurances

Act as a catalyst for change working directly alongside children, young people and their families, writing reports and working alongside the social worker to enable the best outcomes

Be responsible for keeping accurate and timely records of work with children, young people and families and writing relevant reports using electronic or other systems as directed.

What we are looking for in our Family Support Practitioner:

The ability to develop positive relationships with children and families who are experiencing some challenging and stressful difficulties and be able to do this in a way that ensures children remain safe and supported

Proven and relevant knowledge and experience of working directly with children and their families on a range of intervention, development, attachment, play and learning

The ability to recognise and appropriately respond to safeguarding and risk issues.

We positively encourage the use of technology to communicate, but in this role, you will need to travel to locations away from your contractual base, so you must either hold a full and current driving licence and have access to personal transport or meet the mobility requirements of the role through other reasonable and suitable means.

This role is mainly based in the community, however, you may also have the opportunity to work from home occasionally and you will have an office base.
